Summer Positions 2010

Counselor

Description: Must have completed at least one year of college or equivalent. Will be responsible for a group of 8-12 campers in a cabin, leading Bible Study, campfires, recreational activities, and carry out the program as defined in staff training. Special skills desired include: first aid and CPR certifications; leadership abilities; musical abilities; guitar; lifeguard. All counselors are rotated and assigned to all programs offered through Luther Crest and Day Camps, as well as kitchen, office and maintenance, naturalist and/or lifeguarding, depending upon camp needs, individual skills and qualifications. Other duties as assigned.

Salary: First Yr: $230, Second Yr: $240, Third Yr: $250


Kitchen

Description: Must be at least 16 years of age. Prior experience beneficial. Kitchen duties include assisting with meal clean-up and dishes, helping with meal preparation, maintaining a clean kitchen and Dining Hall. Assisting with meal orientation, having high energy and a positive attitude are a must, helping with skits and meal prayers. Assisting with Thursday banquet preparation. Other duties as assigned. On-site housing is not available for this position. Must provide your own transportation to and from camp each day.

Health Care Manager

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent. Responsible for all health-related affairs, including maintaining health supplies, acting as the camp's primary first aid provider, and checking camper cabins daily for cleanliness. Preferred qualifications: RN, First Responder or EMT; minimum qualifications are current First Aid and CPR certification. Other duties as assigned.

DVD Producer

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent. Will be responsible to photograph and film memories from each week of camp. Will produce a CD of memories for campers to purchase from the canteen specific for every week of camp, and create a DVD for promotional use. Special skills desired include: knowledge of computer (camp uses Pinnacle) software, creativity, and ability to meet deadlines. Other duties as assigned.

Naturalist/Challenge Course Manager

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent. Duties include care and maintenance of animals and animal habitats in the Nature Room, lead nature activities, games, nature crafts and interpretive programs, emphasizing our role as stewards of the natural environment in the context of our summer theme. Assist with staff training Earth Play/Team Play Sessions. Maintain Challenge Course equipment. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge of ecology, astronomy, biology, ecology, natural history or other related environmental education is beneficial.

Day Camp Director

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent, and have experience in camping as a counselor or other supervisory position. Duties include supervising, evaluating and affiirming Day Camp staff and directing Day Camp programs at a different location each week. Responsible for planning the Day Camp program materials and training Day Camp staff during staff training. Also contacting churches before and sending follow-up mailings after each Day Camp. Must have a current driver's license. Other duties as assigned.

Specialty Trip Leader

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent and have prior counselor experience or other supervisory position. This person is responsible for directing or assisting with the following programs: WET and WILDerness Canoe Trips, Fishing Camp, Digital Photography, Hi-Can-Bike, Mystery Mission, Musical Camp, Waterama, S.C.U.B.A., Monastic Life Retreat, Hockey, and/or Keepers!. Must have a current driver's license and current lifeguard certification. Guitar-playing ability and boating experience are beneficial. Responsible for maintaining all trip equipment (stoves, tents, paddles, etc.). It is vital for the success of many of these programs that this person is able to work cooperatively with staff from other outdoor ministry sites, such as Pathways, Shetek, Camp Amnicon or Camp Onamia. Other duties as assigned. Self-motivation, creativity, and an incredible amount of flexibility are required.

Arts & Crafts / Canteen Director

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent and have experience in camping as a counselor or other supervisory position. Duties include supervising and evaluating staff, directing daily staff meetings, leading and overseeing all campfires and worships, orientation of campers, implementing and evaluating the summer program. Other duties as assigned. Serves as canteen/crafts manager and is responsible for ordering supplies and keeping inventory records up to date. Provides direction and leadership for on-site counseling staff each week.

Waterfront Director

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent and have experience in camping as a counselor or other supervisory position. Duties include supervising and evaluating staff, directing daily staff meetings, leading and overseeing all campfires and worships, orientation of campers, implementing and evaluating the summer program. Other duties as assigned. Must hold current lifeguard certification or equivalent; water safety instruction certification is beneficial. Responsible for all waterfront activities and all waterfront equipment. Provides direction and leadership for on-site counseling staff each week.

Musical Director

Description: Must have completed at least two years of college or equivalent and have experience in camping as a counselor or other supervisory position. Must have prior education and/or experience in directing a choir, band, and or theatrical production(s). Must be available during two-weeks of staff training and at least once a week for Musical Performances.
